Philosophy of Ministry of the Hilton Baptist Church

Purpose Statement

1.  The purpose of Hilton Baptist is to glorify God by making disciples who worship our God, to help each other grow in the faith, to bear witness to others that Jesus is the source of our life, and to minister to the hurts of others in His love.  Based on John 15, we will seek to develop A.B.L.E disciples:

A -  Abiding in Christ through regular times of Bible reading, prayer and worship.

B -  Bearing fruits of the Spirit that is evident in life and a desire to bring others  to Christ.

L-  Love for believers and those without Christ as well.

E-  Empowered by the Holy Spirit and seeking to obey His leading in their life.

A Definition of a Disciple

2.  A disciple is a person who is willing to let Christ be the Lord of their life.  This growing believer will spend time with the Master, live in the word, pray in faith, have fellowhip with believers, witness to the world, and minister to others.

The Role of the Pastors and Staff

3.  God's Word says that pastors are to "prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up, until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ"  Ephesians 4:11-13.  For this reason, the pastors are to be "player-coaches".  A pastor is to provide direction, teach, train and model so that others will be equipped as ministers in their own right.  The primary function of a pastor must be equipping the body in pastoring, leading, and proclaiming.

 The Role of Our Member-Ministers

4.  The role of our member-ministers is to model discipleship, to grow in their own ministry skills and to equip the rest of the congregation  for ministry.

5.  The church member's role and commitment is to grow as a disciple, to be trained use his/her gifts, and to be empowered by the Holy Spirit to directly minister to all people.

6.  We will value servant gifts as being equally important as leadership gifts in building a healthy disciplemaking church.

7.  All staff, policy makers, and group leaders should be growing disciples, gifted for their tasks, reflect a Christ-like character, and be committed to the church's philosophy of ministry.

8.  All leaders of key church ministries will take part in on-going leader training to constantly improve the gifts God has given them.
